Hungarian Darts Trophy - Ignite!
It looks like more big names will be coming to Budapest this year for the 4th Hungarian Darts Trophy, which last year was a success with many world stars and a record number of spectators, with a total of 19,000 people buying tickets to the MVM Dome. This year, the Hungarian leg of the European Tour will take place in the MVM Dome from 20 to 22 September. The PDC, the world's most important organisation in the sport, has changed its rules compared to last year, which means that the top 16 in the world rankings will also have the chance to compete. Previously, the top 16 in the Pro Tour rankings were eligible to compete. However, Saturday's selection will still be based on the latter ranking.
"According to the rule change, on Friday 20 September, we will be able to cheer on world stars as well as Hungarian competitors. The low ticket prices on that day will almost guarantee a full house and the traditional great atmosphere on the first night of the European Tour's Budapest leg." - Last year's breakthrough in the three-day event was the fact that Nándor Major was the Hungarian qualifier after Friday.
In the final, Luke Humphries, who has since won the world title and shot nine nines in Budapest, was beaten by Dave Chisnall. Last year, the Hungarian capital also hosted top players such as Scotland's Peter Wright, Ireland's Gerwyn Price, the Netherlands' Michael van Gerwen and England's Michael Smith.
This year, there is every chance that we will be able to cheer them on again, as well as darts' new star Luke Littler.
